Privacy Policy

Introduction

FRQuick is an AP essay grading tool. Grading single essays is free, and teachers can pay for a classroom plan to grade a whole class set at once. When you use the site, we collect some information to grade essays, keep your history, and run the service. This page describes what we collect, what we do with it, and what you can control.

Information we collect

When you submit an essay, we store the prompt, passage, and source documents (when applicable), your essay text, any grading instructions you add, and the grading results and feedback we generate. We also store submission settings: AP subject, question type, and whether a result is public or private.

We give your browser a random user ID, kept in a signed session cookie, so we can link submissions to your history. Your browser's local storage also keeps copies of essays you submit and a few display preferences, on your device only. You can grade one essay without creating an account.

If you create an account, we store your email address, your display name and avatar, and your settings, such as your default AP subject. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your email address and basic profile information with us.

If you use the teacher classroom, we also store the classes and assignments you create, the grading instructions and notes you add, the student essays you paste in, the label on each essay, and the results. If you subscribe, we store the billing details described under "Payments" below.

If you email us or use the contact form, we keep your message and email address so we can reply. For abuse prevention and rate limiting, we process technical data such as your IP address and request metadata.

Cookies

We use a few essential cookies. One records whether you accepted analytics cookies or chose essential-only, and lasts up to 180 days. A session cookie links your browser to your random user ID for submission history, and lasts up to one year. Another records that the free grade without an account has been used. When you sign in, our sign-in provider sets cookies that keep you signed in.

Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity cookies load only if you click Accept on our cookie banner. Google Analytics measures site usage. Microsoft Clarity records how people interact with pages, including clicks, scrolling, and the text shown on the page.

You can change your cookie preferences at any time using Cookie settings on the About page.

Analytics and tracking

If you accept analytics cookies, we load Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. We also send custom events to understand how the product is used: essay submissions and grading completion, form interactions (subject, rubric, word-count milestones), navigation and button clicks, results page views, highlight interactions, score breakdown views, PDF downloads, copied result links, history views, time spent on a page, and errors that occur in the app.

If you click Reject and keep essential cookies only, we do not load Google Analytics or Microsoft Clarity, and we do not send these analytics events. We don't show ads, and we don't use advertising cookies or ad tracking.

How we use information

We use the data we collect to grade your essay and show feedback and scores, store results so you can return via your submission link or history, run the teacher classroom, process classroom payments, send account emails, reply to messages you send us, operate and secure FRQuick, prevent abuse and enforce rate limits, measure product usage when you have given analytics consent, and operate your account when you choose to sign up. We do not sell your personal information.

How AI grading works

FRQuick grades essays with an AI model from DeepSeek, a company based in China, through its API. To generate scores and feedback, we send DeepSeek the essay text, the prompt, any passage or source documents, the rubric, and any grading instructions or notes you added. For a teacher's class summary, we send the assignment title, the essay labels, the scores, and short excerpts of the feedback, not the essay text.

If you write your own encouragement note for another student, we send DeepSeek the note's text, and nothing about you, to check that it's kind and safe before anyone sees it. We keep notes, including ones that don't pass the check, so we can look into reports and prevent abuse. They're deleted when you delete your account. The student who gets your note sees your avatar and your initials (never your email), and you see theirs. If you both take the exam you picked for the note, they also see that exam.

Signed-in students connected by a note, or readers of an essay whose author chose to show it, can open that person's profile card: their avatar and its decorations, banner, status, class year, the AP exams they listed, their milestones, and their first name with last initial (or only initials, if they choose). A card never shows an email, school, or full name, and there's no way to search for or list students. You can turn your card off in Settings, and then nobody can open it.

We do not send your name or email address with the essay text. Anything written inside the essay itself, such as a name at the top, is sent as part of the essay, so please leave personal details out of what you submit.

DeepSeek processes and stores the data it receives in the People's Republic of China, under its own terms and privacy policy. We may use other AI providers in the future. If we do, we will update this policy.

Other service providers

Besides DeepSeek, we run FRQuick with help from these service providers:

• Vercel hosts the application.
• Supabase provides sign-in and database storage for accounts, submissions, results, classroom data, and rate limit records.
• Stripe processes classroom subscription payments. See "Payments" below.
• Resend delivers the messages you send us through the contact form, and classroom billing emails such as your subscription confirmation and price change notices. We keep a record of each email we send (the address, the type of email, and whether it was delivered) so we can fix delivery problems.
• Google provides sign-in with Google, if you choose it.
• Google Analytics provides website analytics, only if you consent.
• Microsoft Clarity provides session analytics, only if you consent.

These providers process data for us under their own terms and privacy policies. We share data with them only to run FRQuick. We may also disclose information when the law requires it.

Processing outside the United States

FRQuick is run from the United States, but some of our providers process data in other countries. DeepSeek processes and stores data in the People's Republic of China, so essays and prompts sent for grading are processed there. Other providers may also process data outside the United States. Privacy laws in those countries may differ from the laws where you live, and may give you less protection.

Payments

Stripe processes payments for the teacher classroom. You enter your card details on Stripe's checkout page, and FRQuick never sees or stores your full card number. Stripe also collects the billing address you enter at checkout.

We store your Stripe customer and subscription IDs, the subscription status, the price and billing interval, and the renewal and cancellation dates, so we know whether your classroom is active. Stripe keeps its own records of payments under its own privacy policy.

Teachers and student work

A teacher who uploads student essays to the classroom must have permission to do so, for example under their school's policies. We use those essays only to grade them and show the results to the teacher.

By default, FRQuick removes student names at the top of each essay in your browser, before the essay is saved or graded, and labels each essay with the student's initials instead. You can turn this off and edit labels before you upload. Name removal is automatic and can miss a name, so check each essay in the review step.

Class essays stay private to the teacher's account. They are never made public and never offered to the essay library.

To delete class essays, delete the assignment, which deletes its essays and results, or delete the class, which deletes all of its assignments, essays, and results. Deleting your account deletes all of your classroom data and cancels your subscription immediately. You can also email team@frquick.com to ask us to delete classroom data.

Our commitments for student work uploaded to the classroom:

• We don't show ads, and we never use student work or information about students for targeted advertising.
• We don't sell or rent student work or information about students.
• We don't build profiles of students, except the class results the teacher sees in the classroom.
• We share student work only with the service providers listed on this page that help us run the classroom, such as DeepSeek for grading and Supabase for storage, or when the law requires it.
• We delete classroom data when the teacher, the school, or the district asks. Email team@frquick.com.
• We protect it with the security measures described under "Security".

Essay library

After grading, a student can choose to share an essay with our essay library. Sharing is opt-in. If you share, we review the essay, and if we select it, we publish it as an example for other students, with its score and feedback. When you share, you choose whether signed-in readers can open your profile card from it (see above) or it stays anonymous. We remove names and other identifying details we find in the essay before publishing. Essays shared before this choice existed stay anonymous.

If you delete a submission, or your account, before a shared essay is published, we withdraw it from the library. Once an essay is published, it stays up until you ask us to remove it. Email team@frquick.com to request removal at any time.

Data retention and deletion

Your cookie consent preference stays stored for up to 180 days, or until you change your choice. The session cookie lasts up to one year. Essay submissions and grading results stay stored so you can access your results and history. We do not automatically delete them on a fixed schedule. Classroom classes, assignments, essays, and results stay stored until the teacher deletes them or deletes their account. We keep rate limit records as needed to prevent abuse.

You can delete a submission from your history, and you can delete your account at any time from account settings. Deleting your account deletes your login, your submissions and results, your classroom data, and any essay library entries that have not been published, and it cancels any classroom subscription immediately. If you answer the optional question about why you are leaving, we keep that answer. Published library essays stay up until you ask us to remove them. Stripe keeps its own payment records as the law requires.

To ask us to delete your data without deleting your account, or for an account you can't sign in to, email team@frquick.com.

Security

FRQuick uses HTTPS, so data is encrypted in transit. Essays, results, and classroom data are stored in Supabase with access rules that limit each record to its owner's account, unless you make a result public. We rate-limit requests to slow bots and scraping. No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee that data will never be accessed without permission.

Your choices

Manage analytics cookies through the cookie banner or Cookie settings on the About page. Clear site data in your browser to remove local storage and cookies. On your results page, you can choose whether a submission is public or private. You can delete a submission from your history.

US state privacy rights

Depending on where you live, state law may give you the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy of it, to correct it, or to have it deleted. You can make any of these requests by emailing team@frquick.com. We may need to confirm that the request comes from you, and we will respond within the time the law requires. We won't treat you differently for making a request.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share or use it for targeted advertising. Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity measure how the site is used and load only if you accept analytics cookies.

Children and teens

FRQuick is for students preparing for AP exams and is not directed to children under 13. Children under 13 may not create an account, and teachers may not upload work by students under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have, including in student work a teacher uploaded, we will delete it. If you are a parent or teacher and believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email team@frquick.com and we will delete it.

Students aged 13 to 17 may use FRQuick only with permission from a parent or guardian, as our Terms of Service require.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. When we do, we change the "Last updated" date at the top. If changes are material, we may also tell you by email or in the product. If you keep using FRQuick after an update, you accept the revised policy. We won't use information we already have in a materially different way without telling you first.
